Sacrificial Mares

I made a mistake; taking you with me
was not a good idea.
No fire escapes, not even a way out
or a way forward.
Just being stuck in a circle by the fire.

There's a land I've seen,
a land you've heard about
beyond our addictions' voices.
And last night sacrificed
the mares we would ride there;
now we search for another way.

Forgive me, my friend; finding a chance for your laughter
was what I was fighting for.
No circles, just progress as a way out;
a way forward.
Let's sever this circle
and enjoy the freedom of brokenness.

No more guilt or shame
They'll only know your name,
your everything-name.

  1. The last stanza is fantastic! "your everything-name": Whether or not you coined that, it is wonderful...and I may have to steal it for future works.

  2. especially liked the line/concept:
    "Let's sever this circle
    and enjoy the freedom of brokenness."
